Searching the New Labyrinth: the Echoes of Mercutio’s Banter in Paul’s Cross Churchyard

Abstract:

This talk will examine one highly referential speech by Mercutio in Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet in order to bring forward certain heretofore hidden elements within the physical architecture and also the architecture of consciousness at St Paul's during the 1590s. It will focus on the bookselling district of Paul’s Cross Churchyard on the northeast side of the cathedral.
