The type VI secretion system (T6SS) is a versatile multi-component nanomachine found in 25% of Gram-negative bacteria. It translocates effector proteins into neighbouring eukaryotic or prokaryotic cells, and therefore it is important for bacterial virulence, as well as interbacterial competition.
