Investigating the extent to which informal mentoring by recently retired teachers of Physics can support beginner teachers of Physics to grow in their teacher knowledge and influence their retention in teaching

Abstract:

The experiences of beginner teachers of physics in their first year of teaching and the factors affecting their intentions to remain in the profession are explored and contrasted with what is known from the literature. Findings from this include feelings of isolation, lack of subject specific support and low time availability of supportive colleagues in schools.
