To understand how subgrain-size is related to differential stress, we analysed experimentally deformed quartz and olivine samples using electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD). Files were cleaned using Oxford Instruments Channel5 software. For each sample, we produced a map of mineral orientations, recorded in a Channel Text File (.ctf).
