CCBY Objective: Respiratory rate (RR) estimation algorithms based on the photoplethymogram (PPG) and electrocardiogram (ECG) lack clinical robustness. This is because the PPG and ECG respiratory modulations are highly dependent on patient physiology, regardless of general signal quality.
