A wide range of pseudorotaxane assemblies containing positively charged pyridinium, pyridinium nicotinamide, imidazolium, benzimidazolium and guanidinium threading components, and macrocyclic isophthalamide polyether ligands have been prepared using a general anion templation procedure.
