Fronto-temporal connections in schizophrenia and bipolar disorder

Abstract:

Schizophrenia and bipolar disorder are chronic and devastating disorders affecting 1% of the population worldwide. They have the same prevalence in both sexes, although it is well accepted that schizophrenic men present an earlier age of onset, higher prevalence of negative symptoms and poorer prognosis. With the advent of neuroimaging techniques such as computed tomography scans and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), it has been possible to discover brain abnormalities in these disorders....
