Some investigations using atomic beams

We describe an atomic beam resonance experiment to search for an electric dipole moment in the 3P2 metastable state in xenon. The experiment avoids the "v × E" difficulty of earlier work by using an atomic state which has a high differential polarizability. Small residual effects of order five times greater than the experimental precision are cancelled by comparison between xenon and krypton. We obtain a null result for the electron e...
