Boundary layer transition in hypersonic flows

Abstract:

Boundary layers are an important consideration in hypersonic vehicle design, influencing both heat transfer and drag characteristics. It is advantageous to be able to control precisely where turbulent transition in boundary layers occurs in the intake of a scramjet, the propulsion mechanism of choice for hypersonic air-breathing engines.
