RNA waste in the budding yeast nucleus is degraded 3’-5’ via exosome-mediated pathways associated with the non-canonical poly(A) polymerases Trf4 and Trf5. Multiple sequence alignments identify POLS and PAPD5 as the human orthologues of Trf4 and Trf5. This research has investigated the degree of conservation and extent of divergence of POLS and PAPD5 from their orthologues.
