Educational aspirations of rural children living in poor communities in Ethiopia

Abstract:

This paper examines educational aspirations of children living in rural poor communities in Ethiopia using both qualitative and quantitative data. The results suggest that despite parental illiteracy and poverty, children set high educational aspirations and maintain them over ages. However, educational aspirations for rural students are lower than their urban peers and the disparity widens over ages.
