Metamorphoses of bodies and desire: Making queer heterotopias in contemporary Japanese cinemas

Abstract:

This thesis discusses ‘queer’ and ‘heterotopic’ within the context of contemporary Japanese cinemas. So far, queer studies have proved how ‘queer’ is in itself peculiar and hard to pin down through a universal definition. Studying ‘queer’ thus requires multiple lenses and interdisciplinary approaches.
